Gold

MAC Gold Snow Ball Eye Compact ($29.50 for 0.28 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that includes six eyeshadows. They are nearly full-sized (the Dazzleshadow shades are slightly less at 0.04 oz. but the other four are actually 0.05 oz. each, which is full-sized). The palette left something to be desired, as they were not the most usable or blendable on their own. This was a palette that required primer and/or a glitter adhesive to work well.

Frosted Fizz

Frosted Fizz is a soft beige with warm, yellow undertones and a satin finish. It had good color payoff in a single layer (which may be harder to discern in the photo, as it was closer to my skin tone). The consistency was smooth but more firmly pressed in the pan, which helped minimize excess kickup in the pan but was not enough to hinder blending. It wore nicely for seven and a half hours for me.

Dazzle the Night Away

Dazzle the Night Away is a light gold with warm, yellow undertones and a sparkling finish. The texture was chunkier and looser, which gave it a drier feeling overall. It had sheer coverage when applied dry and semi-sheer coverage when applied dampened. I had to really pat and pack it on with fingertips to get greater coverage out of it, and there was a ton of fallout when I used this shade both during application as well as throughout the seven-hour wear time.

Spun from Gold

Spun from Gold is a light-medium gold with warm, yellow undertones and a chunky, glittery finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation when applied with a dry brush, and it did intensify to opaque coverage when applied with a dampened brush. The eyeshadow felt more loosely pressed and seemed to have less binding ingredients, so it felt drier to the touch. There was heavy fallout during application unless I used it with a dampened brush or patted over an adhesive base. It lasted for seven hours but had some fallout over time.

Evening Light

Evening Light is a medium bronze with warm undertones and a golden, pearly sheen. It had excellent color payoff with a smooth, blendable texture that wasn’t too softly or too firmly pressed into the pan. The eyeshadow lasted for eight hours on me before fading noticeably.

Well Past Midnight

Well Past Midnight is a medium black with fine, multi-colored pearl over a matte finish. It had medium, buildable color coverage with a stiff, dry texture that was harder to blend out on the lid. I had the best luck packing it onto the lid and using the other gray shade in the palette to diffuse the edges. This shade stayed on well for seven and a half hours.

Cinder

Cinder is a deep gray with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation with a firmer, stiffer texture that made it harder to pickup product with a brush as well as when it came to diffusing and blending out the eyeshadow on the skin. The color stayed on well for seven and a half hours on me.

Chanel Trait de Caractere Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches

Trait de Caractere

Chanel Trait de Caractere Eyeshadow Palette ($70.00 for 0.31 oz.) is a smoky, earthy set of shades housed in a black compact. I wanted to like it, as it was a more unusual set of shades for the holiday season, but the formula is just so powdery, prone to sheering out, and short-wearing that it left me incredibly disappointed. More often than not, Chanel’s 5-pan palettes are unimpressive, and it always makes me wonder why they didn’t just make a quad instead, where the formula is stronger.

Trait de Caractere #1

Trait de Caractere #1 is a soft, dirty beige with subtle, warm undertones and a pearly sheen. It had good pigmentation with a soft, blendable texture that was just a smidgen powdery in the pan. It applied evenly and lasted for six and a half hours on me.

Trait de Caractere #2

Trait de Caractere #2 is a pale gold with warm, yellow undertones and a soft, pearl finish. It semi-opaque color payoff in a single layer but was moderately dusty and felt quite dry in the pan, so the eyeshadow sheered out too readily on the lid and looked like a sheer wash of shimmer with little color in practice. What little I could see seemed to last for five hours.

Trait de Caractere #3

Trait de Caractere #3 is a dark, reddish brown with subtle, warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that did not build up well but actually seemed to diffuse and sheer out on the lid. The more I applied, the more product I had underneath my eye rather than on it, even when applied over an eye primer. The texture was drier, dusty, and wasn’t the easiest to blend out. It lasted for six hours on me.

Trait de Caractere #4

Trait de Caractere #4 is a deep olive with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was so powdery–there was so much product kicked up in the pan–and by the time I patted off the excess on my brush, there was only a sheer wash of color on the lid. It was impossible to keep it at even medium coverage as the product sheered out so much by gentle blending just around the edges. The eyeshadow wore well for six hours on me.

Trait de Caractere #5

Trait de Caractere #5 is a deep green with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had sheer coverage, which did not build up at all and still looked like an atrocity over primer or a tacky base. The texture was loose, dry, and messy to work with as little sticks to the skin but plenty of it drops below the eyelid! What little transferred to the lid lasted for–at best–five hours.

Pretty, Fun, Fearless Volume II

Ciate Pretty, Fun, Fearless Volume II Beauty Haul Makeup Set ($49.00 for 1.24 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette for the holidays. It includes 20 eyeshadows along with a full-sized liquid liner (not reviewed here), miniature-sized liquid lipstick, and mascara (not reviewed here). The eyeshadows are supposed to be “packed full of gorgeous pigment” and have “ultimate blendability and massive color payoff.”

I had higher hopes for this palette, but there was a dryness present in several shades that made it a struggle to use, even when I tried a few of those disappointing shades over an eyeshadow primer (I even used a creamier one by Marc Jacobs Beauty). Some shades were lovely, but a lot of them were under-pigmented, needed to be built up, had fallout due to poor adhesion and binding, and were just generally far harder to work with than many other eyeshadow palettes at this price point.

Beauty

Beauty is a soft black–almost a gray more than a black–with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. The texture was powdery and prone to sheering out, which yielded semi-opaque coverage at best. This did not blend out that well and lasted for six hours on me.

Ingredients

Talc, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Dimethicone, Silica, Cetearyl Ethylhexanoate, Nylon-12, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Zinc Stearate, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin [May Contain +/- : Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Ultramarines (Ci 77007), Bismuth Oxychloride (Ci 77163), Carmine (Ci 75470), Yellow 5 Lake (Ci 19140)].

Rose Gold

Rose Gold is a muted, medium-dark copper with warm, brown undertones and a metallic sheen. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that was prone to sheering out due to the drier, looser texture that did not apply well to bare skin. It wore well for six hours on me. There was very minor improvement over a primer.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Dimethicone, Triethylhexanoin, Zinc Stearate, Nylon-12, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tin Oxide, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite [May Contain +/- : Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, CI 77492, Ci 77499), Ferric Ferrocyanide (Ci 77510), Ultramarines (Ci 77007), Yellow 5 Lake (Ci 19140), Carmine (Ci 75470)].

Soul

Soul appeared to be a sooty, emerald green but was so sheer that it was hard to tell what it was–maybe a blackened green with some pearl. It had sheer coverage with a stiff, dry texture that was difficult to pickup product from and even more challenging to apply and blend out as there was little there. I’m not even sure it lasted for longer than five hours on me.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Dimethicone, Triethylhexanoin, Zinc Stearate, Nylon-12, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tin Oxide, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite [May Contain +/- : Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, CI 77492, Ci 77499), Ferric Ferrocyanide (Ci 77510), Ultramarines (Ci 77007), Yellow 5 Lake (Ci 19140), Carmine (Ci 75470)].

Sydney

Sydney is a medium, pinky mauve with warm undertones and a semi-matte finish. It had nearly opaque color payoff that applied evenly across the lips. The consistency was airy, mousse-like, and easy to spread on my lips. There was a slight amount of product that got into my deeper lip lines, but it wasn’t noticeable from a normal viewing distance. It lasted for five hours and was neither drying nor hydrating.

Ingredients

Cyclopentasiloxane, Trimethylsiloxyphenyl Dimethicone, Neopentyl Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate, Isododecane, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Triacontanyl PVP, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Methoxy PEG-17/Methoxy PEG-11/HDI Isocyanurate Trimer Crosspolymer, Fragrance (Parfum), Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Butylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hexylene Glycol, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492), Red 7 Lake (Ci 15850), Yellow 6 Lake (Ci 15985).

ME122 Snow

Make Up For Ever ME122 Snow Artist Color Shadow ($17.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a bright white with neutral-to-cool undertones and a metallic finish. It had good color payoff in a single layer, which was buildable to full coverage with a second layer on top. The consistency was soft, smooth, and dense but not stiff or difficult to pickup with a brush. The eyeshadow blended out nicely and stayed on well for nine hours on me.

The new version is less shimmery (see side-by-side comparison).

Formula Overview

$17.00/0.08 oz. - $212.50 Per Ounce

The original Artist Shadow formula had a creamier, slightly softer, and thicker feel for finishes like Metallic, Iridescent, and Satin, while I felt the original Diamond finish was denser/thicker (heavier almost) and the Matte finish was more powdery but similar in softness and pigmentation (I did not find the original Mattes to be ultra pigmented across the board--semi-opaque to opaque, buildable, which you can see in my original swatches here). By and large, I found the formula to be easy to work with and did not have to spend a lot of time blending or fussing with the shades on the lid.

The new Matte formula has a smoother consistency that has more slip to the touch with less powderiness in the pan, but the pigmentation did seem slightly weaker on average compared to the original formula. The pigmentation of the new Matte formula was still semi-opaque to opaque and buildable but I felt like there were just more shades that were closer to semi-opaque than to opaque. However, shades like M402 Mimosa showed improvement, as it used to be a Satin (see here) and not as easy to work with due to the denser texture. A lot of the shades were similar in color between the formulas, but there were a few that were not (M546 Dark Purple Taupe was a shade with more significant changes; the new version is warmer and lighter). Overall, I did not have any issues applying most of the matte shades to the lid, blending them out, or building up coverage. They lasted between nine and ten hours on me, which was actually a bit longer (on average) compared to the original formula, where the mattes tended to wear between seven and eight hours on me (without primer).

The new Satin formula was the most different; it had weaker pigmentation, felt denser and drier with less give and creaminess. In practice, I did not feel like application was harder or noticeably different other than feeling like more of the shades required two layers for more opaque coverage, though some of the more neutral shades were fairly pigmented in a single layer. I also noticed that this particular finish seemed to be the most culled; there weren't that many shades in it, and I wonder if they did not sell well or something about the finish is harder to produce. There were significant differences in color (and/or undertone) between shades in the new formula and old formula (with the same names) within this finish, too, where most were different rather than only a handful being different. The pigmentation of the new Satin formula was typically semi-opaque and buildable, while they applied evenly, blended out without much effort, and lasted between eight and ten hours (without primer).

The new Iridescent formula was the second most different and more comparable to the Satin finish in terms of overall feel and performance, just with larger shimmer/micro-sparkle. The new formula has a denser consistency (almost "drier" and with less slip) and didn't feel as cream-like, but the powder seemed to pickup better with most brushes and was more consistent in the actual finish--pearly with sparkle--whereas the original formula varied more heavily between pearly and metallic, sparkle and finer shimmer. There were, however, more substantial color and undertone differences between old and new within this formula, like I saw with the Satin formula. Overall, I did not experience any significant issues applying most of the shades to the lid--they were semi-opaque to opaque, fairly buildable, blendable, and long-wearing (eight to ten hours).

The new Metallic formula was the most consistent between old and new for overall feel, performance, and color. There were, of course, a few shades that seemed lighter/darker, cooler/warmer compared to the previous versions, and all those notes will be made within the respective shade's review. I think the new Metallic finish has a more flattering look on the lid, as the consistency wasn't quite as thick, which should make it apply and appear smoother on the lid for more people. There were several shades that seemed slightly deeper or less reflective, while others were as reflective as past versions. The majority of the shades of this finish were very pigmented with a moderately dense, lightly creamy texture that blended out well on the lid and wore between nine and ten hours on me.

The new Diamond finish was noticeably less dense/thick, particularly on the lid, which did make it easier to spread across a larger area and easier to pickup with more types of brushes. I was worried that there would be more fallout, but I haven't noticeable much fallout with the new Diamond shades over the eight to ten hours they last for. Most of them had good pigmentation, though there were a few that were weaker (medium to semi-opaque coverage); a shade like D410 Gold Nugget was a weaker shade before and still is while D326 Lagoon Blue is significantly less pigmented in the new formula.

As I typically do with new eyeshadow formulas, I tested a few shades from each finish over various primers, as I like to see how new formulas interact with different types of primers and if there are any unexpected consequences of using primers (I felt that some of the more silicone-heavy Artist Shadows from before actually applied better without primer). I didn't notice any ill effects of using primers like Smashbox 24-Hour, Marc Jacobs Coconut Eye Primer, Too Faced Shadow Insurance, or Urban Decay Primer Potion. They all seemed to just help with wear, and with some of the shades that felt drier or had weaker pigmentation, the use of primer seemed to improve initial coverage levels, too.

ME202 Iceberg Blue

Make Up For Ever ME202 Iceberg Blue Artist Color Shadow ($17.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a pale, bluish silver with cool undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied fairly evenly to bare skin, but it had larger sparkle and was harder to build up without using a dampened brush or primer underneath it. The consistency was a touch drier compared to other Metallic shades in the range, but it blended out fairly well. It lasted for nine and a half hours on me before fading noticeably but had some fallout over time.

The new version is darker and less metallic (see side-by-side comparison).

ME108 Steel

Make Up For Ever ME108 Steel Artist Color Shadow ($17.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a medium-dark gray with cooler undertones and a metallic finish. The texture was denser and a bit drier, which resulted in more ragged edges when it came time to diffuse and blend the eyeshadow out on my lid. It had good color payoff but definitely required a heavier hand and flat, synthetic brushes for best results. It wore well for nine and a half hours before fading slightly on me.

The new version is darker and more neutral than blue/cool-toned (see side-by-side comparison).

Formula Overview

M106 Slate

Make Up For Ever M106 Slate Artist Color Shadow ($17.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a deep, bluish gray with a matte finish. The eyeshadow had a soft, lightly powdery consistency in the pan that had felt velvety to the touch. It had medium coverage but was buildable, which I think made it easier to work with as it blended out without a lot of effort, but some will want greater pigmentation without the effort. This shade wore well for nine hours on me.

The original version wasn’t quite as cool-toned and looked lighter but wasn’t particularly pigmented either (see side-by-side comparison).

Formula Overview

$17.00/0.08 oz. - $212.50 Per Ounce

M226 Abyssal Blue

Make Up For Ever M226 Abyssal Blue Artist Color Shadow ($17.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark blue with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation that applied fairly evenly to bare skin and blended out easily. Over time, I have found that I prefer more buildable, deeper matte shades like this, but it’s certainly not advertised that way. The texture was smooth and velvety to the touch but was a little powdery when I used it. The color stayed on well for nine and a half hours on me.

The new version is completely different–it used to be a satin finish and was a teal, not a straight-up blue hue (see side-by-side comparison).

ME116 Silver

Make Up For Ever ME116 Silver Artist Color Shadow ($17.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a medium silver with subtle, neutral-to-cool undertones and a pearly sheen. The pigmentation was good, while the texture was smooth, lightly creamy, and moderately dense. It worked best with flat, synthetic brushes using a pushing and pulling method to dislodge product and to apply to the lid (again, common technique for denser, more silicone-heavy formulations in my experience). It applied evenly to my lid and blended out nicely. This shade wore well for nine and a half hours on me.

The new version is darker and less metallic (but has a smoother shine) (see side-by-side comparison).

Soleil d'Ambre

Tom Ford Beauty Soleil d’Ambre Eye & Cheek Palette ($155.00 for 0.45 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that contains four eyeshadows and two cheek colors (one blush, one highlighter). The highlighter stood out above all the other shades in the palette, which were more so-so and just not high-performing enough to be impressive.

Soleil d'Ambre (Blush)

Soleil d’Ambre (Blush) is a soft, medium-dark plum with warmer undertones and a satin sheen. It had good color payoff that was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. The texture was smooth and velvety to the touch but seemed a little drier on my skin as it took a little more effort to diffuse the edges. It wore well for nine hours on me before fading noticeably.

Soleil d'Ambre #1 (Eye Color)

Soleil d’Ambre #1 (Eye Color) is a soft, pale pink with warm undertones and a frosted shimmer. It had sheer coverage, did not build up, and did not improve over primer. The texture was drier and dusty, which may have been part of the reason the pigmentation was so poor. The color seemed to stay on (what little I could see) for around six and a half hours.

Soleil d'Ambre #2 (Eye Color)

Soleil d’Ambre #2 (Eye Color) is a light-medium gold with warm, brown undertones and a sparkling finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation, which was only buildable if applied with a dampened brush. Based on my experience with the brand’s eyeshadows, I expect this is their ‘sheer sparkle” finish, so the sheerness wasn’t unexpected. The consistency has an almost wet-like feel to it, though it goes on like a powder. It lasted for eight hours but had some fallout over time.

Soleil d'Ambre #3 (Eye Color)

Soleil d’Ambre #3 (Eye Color) is a medium taupe-brown withh warm undertones and a satin sheen. The color payoff was opaque in a single layer, but the texture was drier and dustier, which resulted in some fallout during application. This shade stayed on well for seven hours on me.

Soleil d'Ambre #4 (Eye Color)

Soleil d’Ambre #4 (Eye Color) is a medium plum with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It had opaque pigmentation that applied fairly evenly onto the lid, but the texture was drier and stiffer to work with, and I found that it was harder to blend out seamlessly on my lid. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me before fading noticeably.

Soleil d'Ambre (Highlighter)

Soleil d’Ambre (Highlighter) is a light, golden peach with strong, warm undertones and a metallic sheen. The color payoff was fantastic, while the highlighter felt smooth, creamy, and blended out effortlessly on my skin. It stayed on well for nine hours before fading slightly.

I Am Divine

Kat Von D I Am Divine Spring 2018 Eyeshadow Palette ($38.00 for 0.48 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette featuring eight eyeshadows with a mix of mattes and shimmers. It’s certainly a fun color scheme that isn’t something we’ve seen over and over again, but the execution of some of the shades here (like Hard Magic, the matte black, and Female Trouble, the matte white) was tragic.

Babs

Babs is a light gold with warm, yellow undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The consistency was slightly drier, which resulted in looser sparkle lifting away from the base color in the form of fallout both during application as well as during wear. It had good pigmentation but only lasted seven hours on me.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Dimethicone, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Dimethiconol, Zinc Stearate, Silica, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Tin Oxide, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Hexylene Glycol, Diisostearyl Malate, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Isostearyl Alcohol, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Polyethylene Terephthalate, Malic Acid, Acrylates Copolymer, Palmitic Acid, Stearic Acid, Benzoic Acid, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Yellow 5 Lake (Ci 19140), Aluminum Powder (Ci 77000).

Hard Magic

Hard Magic is a medium-dark black with neutral undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that was somewhat buildable, but it blended terribly–even over primer!–as it applied unevenly, refused to budge, and threatened to ruin any look I tried to incorporate it with. I ended up having to layer a shade like Baltimore over it to try to erase its impact the first time I attempted to use it. On its own, it wore well for six hours on me.

Ingredients

Zinc Stearate, Dimethicone, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Talc, Methicone, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Silica, Hexylene Glycol, Mica, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77499).

Baltimore

Baltimore is a medium-dark blue with cool undertones and a frosted sheen. It had good pigmentation–almost opaque–that applied evenly and smoothly to bare skin. The consistency was soft, smooth, and blendable, which made it easy to work with. This shade stayed on well for eight hours on me.

Waters

Waters is a light, sky blue with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff that was buildable, but the texture was somewhat powdery, almost chalky to my touch, and could have been easier to blend out. It wore well for seven hours on me before fading noticeably.

Pink Flamingos

Pink Flamingos is a light-medium, chartreuse green (that leaned quite green) with a soft, frosted finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that applied fairly evenly, but the texture was a bit dusty and thin to work with, so it would be best over a primer or applied with a dampened brush. Female Trouble

Female Trouble is a light white with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It was soft to the touch but rather powdery and very prone to sheering out, so I really had to pat and pack it on with multiple layers to get it to show well. I could not build it up well on its own, and it was only buildable to medium coverage over a primer. I also found it challenging to apply it precisely as there was a lot of fallout (even after tapping away excess off my brush) during application that would cause some shades to turn grayish. It lasted for six hours on me.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Zinc Stearate, Dimethicone, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Silica, Hexylene Glycol, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Methicone, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Bismuth Oxychloride (Ci 77163).

Hairspray

Hairspray is a light-medium, golden pewter with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. The texture was drier and more loosely pressed, which resulted in a lot of the larger sparkles coming away from the base product. This excess product either got trapped in my brush or fell off my lid as I applied and blended out the eyeshadow. It had good pigmentation that stayed on well for seven and a half hours, but there was some continued fallout as it wore.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Dimethicone, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Dimethiconol, Zinc Stearate, Silica, Caprylyl Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Tin Oxide, Hexylene Glycol, Diisostearyl Malate, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Isostearyl Alcohol, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Polyethylene Terephthalate, Acrylates Copolymer, Palmitic Acid, Malic Acid, Benzoic Acid, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Aluminum Powder (Ci 77000), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77499), Yellow 5 Lake (Ci 19140).

Double Tap

Smashbox Double Tap Photo Edit Eye Shadow Trio ($22.00 for 0.11 oz.) contains a light peach, soft bronze, and deep brown with the first two having a shimmery finish and the last shade having a matte finish. It wasn’t the worst set of shades I’ve worn, but all three could have been improved, so for the type of hues used (not particularly unique) and the price point, I’m not sure where Smashbox was going with this offering.

Meme Girl

Meme Girl is a light, golden peach with warm undertones and a frosted sheen. It went on substantially lighter than it appeared in the pan. The eyeshadow had semi-opaque pigmentation, which was somewhat buildable but much improved over a primer. The consistency was soft, smooth, and not too powdery in the pan, so it was easy to use and mess-free. It lasted for seven hours on me.

Formula Overview

-

The formula is supposed to be "super-blendable" and "richly-pigmented." I found the quality to vary a lot from shade to shade, even with a trio, as some shades had soft, blendable texture and others were drier, dusty, and messy to work with and had pigmentation that sheered out or faded quickly. I wanted to like them more than I ended up after using them on the lid as I routinely felt like the brighter shades never looked quite as vibrant in practice as they did in the pan. Most of the shades were blendable and had coverage from medium to opaque with a few being sheer. They lasted anywhere from five to eight hours on me.

Gif Me That

Gif Me That is a soft, coppery bronze with warm undertones and a frosted finish. The texture was drier and a bit prone to sheering out on the lid, though it had good pigmentation to begin with. This shade started to fade on me after seven hours of wear.

Side Hustle

Side Hustle is a deep brown with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque pigmentation that was buildable on the lid, but the texture was drier and thinner, which made it hard to diffuse and blend the color for even application on the lid or in the crease. I noticed this shade had started to fade noticeably after seven and a half hours of wear.

Viseart Petit Pro (02) Eyeshadow Palette Review, Photos, Swatches

Petit Pro (02)

Viseart Petit Pro (02) Petit Pro Palette ($30.00 for 0.28 oz.) is new, eight-pan palette with four matte shades and four shimmery shades. I usually find Viseart’s quality to be on the higher side, and occasionally, their “misses” will be less-pigmented matte shades, but they’ll be very buildable and easy to work with, but I had one matte shade here (#4) that was terrible and one shimmer that was beyond dismal.

Ingredients

MINERAL TALC, MICA, MINERAL ZINC STEARATE, OCTYLDODECANOL (PLANT DERIVED), MYRISTYL LACTATE (PLANT DERIVED), OCTYLDODECYL STEAROYL STEARATE (VEGETABLE DERIVED), ISONONYL ISONONANOATE (PLANT DERIVED), TOCOPHEROL (PLANT DERIVED). (+/-) MAY CONTAIN: MINERAL PIGMENTS: TITANIUM DIOXIDE (77891), IRON OXIDES (77491, 77492, 77499), BLUE 1 (42090), CARMINE (75470), MICA (77019).

Petit Pro (02) #1

Petit Pro (02) #1 is a light-medium coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had a soft, velvety texture that was slightly powdery in the pan, but it had good pigmentation and blended out well on my lid and did not seem to have fallout issues during application. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading.

Ingredients

Mica, Talc, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Zinc Stearate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Silica, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate. May Contain (+/-): Aluminum Powder (Ci 77000), Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Red 40 Lake (Ci 15850), Carmine (Ci 75470), Black 2 (Ci 77266), Ferric Ferrocyanide (Ci 77510).

Petit Pro (02) #2

Petit Pro (02) #2 is a medium coral with warm, orange undertones and a mostly matte finish. The pigmentation was nearly opaque in one layer, while the texture was soft, a little drier to the touch, but it was fairly easy to work with and apply to my bare lid. The eyeshadow started to fade on me after eight hours of wear.

Ingredients

Mica, Talc, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Zinc Stearate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Silica, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate. Petit Pro (02) #3

Petit Pro (02) #3 is a dark brown with warm, red undertones and a matte finish. It had good color payoff that was buildable to full coverage with two layers. The texture was soft, lightly dusty in the pan, and a bit messier to work with so some care was needed to avoid fallout during application. It blended out nicely and stayed on well for eight hours.

Ingredients

Mica, Talc, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Zinc Stearate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Silica, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate. May Contain (+/-): Aluminum Powder (Ci 77000), Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Red 40 Lake (Ci 15850), Carmine (Ci 75470), Black 2 (Ci 77266), Ferric Ferrocyanide (Ci 77510).

Petit Pro (02) #4

Petit Pro (02) #4 is a muted, medium eggplant purple with subtle, warm pink undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation with a firmer, stiffer texture that made building up the pigmentation a challenge and blending more difficult. The quality was poor, period, and for Viseart, was embarrassing. It lasted well for seven and a half hours on me.

Ingredients

Mica, Talc, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Zinc Stearate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Silica, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate. May Contain (+/-): Aluminum Powder (Ci 77000), Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Red 40 Lake (Ci 15850), Carmine (Ci 75470), Black 2 (Ci 77266), Ferric Ferrocyanide (Ci 77510).

Petit Pro (02) #5

Petit Pro (02) #5 is a medium rosy pink with warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had sheer coverage, which was unexpected and so poor that I tried it damp (which isn’t a common thing I do with Viseart for testing), and it was better dampened but not impressive. The texture felt very slippery and yet drier where the powder felt sandy on my skin. It had a ton of fallout during application and poor adhesion. It lasted for three hours dry… at best.

Ingredients

Mica, Talc, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Zinc Stearate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Silica, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate. May Contain (+/-): Aluminum Powder (Ci 77000), Titanium Dioxide (Ci 77891), Iron Oxides (Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499), Red 40 Lake (Ci 15850), Carmine (Ci 75470), Black 2 (Ci 77266), Ferric Ferrocyanide (Ci 77510).

Petit Pro (02) #6 is a rich, coppery red with warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had rich color payoff with a smooth, blendable consistency that was dense without being stiff. The eyeshadow applied well and stayed on for eight and a half hours.

Ingredients

Mica, Talc, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Zinc Stearate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Silica, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate. Petit Pro (02) #7 is a medium-dark plum with warm, brown undertones and a frosted sheen. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me.

Ingredients

Mica, Talc, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Zinc Stearate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Silica, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate. Nudie Pic (Medium)

Smashbox Nudie Pic (Medium) Photo Edit Eye Shadow Trio ($22.00 for 0.11 oz.) is a warm-toned, neutral trio featuring a light beige, light brown, and mid-tone brown with matte finishes. All three were a waste of time and money–for matte neutrals, there are so many better products out there. The type of experience I had using this trio is nowhere near what I’d expect for mid-end pricing.

Cashew Outside

Cashew Outside is a light, muted yellow with warm undertones and a matte finish. It was incredibly powdery, which resulted in a ton of product kicked up in the pan during use and some fallout during application (even after tapping away excess off my brush). The eyesahdow had semi-opaque pigmentation that did not build up as it wouldn’t layer on itself. It lasted for six hours on me.

Wheat

Wheat is a soft, ultra-light brown with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was unbelievably powdery with even a soft, light-handed touch. It had medium coverage, though it may be difficult to ascertain against my skintone as it was quite close to my natural complexion. This shade started to fade on me after six and a half hours of wear.

Hazelnut

Hazelnut is a muted, medium brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation, which wasn’t buildable, and the texture was drier and more powdery, which resulted in sheer, uneven application that made me wonder since when did it get challenging to create a matte brown eyeshadow. It faded on me after six hours.

D104 Black Diamond

Make Up For Ever D104 Black Diamond Artist Color Shadow ($17.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a deep black with a satin finish and larger, silver sparkle. The consistency was denser and thicker with a creamier feel overall, which helped the larger sparkles bind with the underlying color and minimized fallout. It was richly pigmented and applied well to bare skin but took slightly more effort to diffuse along the edges due to the thicker texture. This shade lasted for 10 hours on me.

The new version is quite similar to the previous, possibly a little cooler in tone (see side-by-side comparison).

ME512 Golden Beige

Make Up For Ever ME512 Golden Beige Artist Color Shadow ($17.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a soft gold with warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that applied evenly and smoothly to bare skin. The texture was firmer but still pliable enough to pickup with ease using a flat brush and adhered well to my lid, though it requires pressing and patting rather than sweeping on for best results (which is consistent with the original Artist formula). It wore well for nine and a half hours on me.

The new version seemed slightly darker and less warm-toned to my eye (see side-by-side comparison).

$17.00/0.08 oz. - $212.50 Per Ounce

ME644 Iced Brown

Make Up For Ever ME644 Iced Brown Artist Color Shadow ($17.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a rich, golden bronze with warm, red undertones and a metallic sheen. The pigmentation was incredibly rich in a single layer with smooth, even color coverage that was easy to apply to my lid. The consistency was dense, lightly creamy, and blendable. It wore well for 10 hours on me before fading slightly.

The new formula seems to have a more metallic finish (see side-by-side comparison).

S560 Taupe

Make Up For Ever S560 Taupe Artist Color Shadow ($17.00 for 0.08 oz.) is a soft brown with subtle, warm undertones and a satin finish. The color payoff was opaque in one layer, while the texture was firmer and felt like it had quite a bit of silicone in it, as it was velvety to the touch but harder to pick up with a brush without using a heavier hand. It seemed to apply better to my lid in practice, though I would recommend pressing and pulling the color across the lid rather than sweeping or more feathery motions. This shade lasted well for nine hours on me before fading a bit.

The new version is significantly lighter than the previous version (see side-by-side comparison).

Goldbit

MAC Goldbit Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a light, golden peach with warm undertones and flecks of gold glitter. It has a Lustre finish, where coverage is (by design) sheerer and the finish has larger glitter particles. I found it had more semi-opaque pigmentation with some glitter but it was smoother and easier to use than the average Lustre eyeshadow. The consistency was soft, blendable, and sat fairly well on bare skin but some fallout occurred during initial application. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me before fading.

Kid

MAC Kid Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a medium-dark beige with warm undertones and a matte finish. The color payoff was opaque in a single layer, while the texture felt soft and smooth without having a lot of powderiness, yet it remained blendable during application. It lasted for eight hours on me before fading noticeably.

MAC Tete-a-tint Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a muted, light-medium brown with warm, peachy undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was smooth and velvety with a touch of powderiness; it felt slightly less silky compared to the last iteration I have of it, but it was still easy to apply to the lid and blend out along the edges. It had nearly opaque pigmentation that stayed on well for eight hours.

Uninterrupted

MAC Uninterrupted Eyeshadow ($16.00 for 0.05 oz.) is a medium brown with strong, warm yellow undertones and a matte finish. It was richly pigmented and had a smooth, soft, and blendable texture that was a touch dusty in the pan, but it applied evenly to bare skin and was easy to work with on the lid. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me.

70's Sunset

MAC 70’s Sunset Eyeshadow Quad ($33.00 for 0.19 oz.) is new, limited edition palette that releases March 15th online and at select stores. The shades were very spring-like to me–muted but not totally washed out–and I could see some really enjoying it, but it wasn’t the best with respect to quality as the two mattes were rather powdery and required primer and/or significant layering for true-to-pan coverage.

Sand and Clay is a light, peachy brown with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-opaque color coverage in a single layer, which was somewhat buildable but required a primer for full opacity. The consistency was lightly powdery, soft to the touch, and blendable on my lid. The eyeshadow started to fade on me after eight hours of wear.

All's Rosy

All’s Rosy is a muted, medium-dark mauve with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer pigmentation that was buildable to semi-opaque coverage. The texture was dusty and a bit thin, which made it messier to work with and harder to build up to full coverage. It seemed to blend out just fine, though. It wore well for seven and a half hours on me.

Tom Ford Azure Sun Cream & Powder Eye Color Review, Photos, Swatches

Azure Sun

Tom Ford Beauty Azure Sun Cream & Powder Eye Color ($62.00 for 0.31 oz.) is contains a peachy, sparkly powder eyeshadow and a rich, teal cream eyeshadow. I’m a big fan of the wear of Tom Ford’s cream typically, but I found the shade included in the duo to be hard to use on its own (which limited the versatility of the product).

Azure Sun (Eye Color)

Azure Sun (Eye Color) is a light-medium peach with warm, brown undertones and a sparkling finish. I tried applying it with a dry as well as a dampened brush, and the coverage was similar but dampened application yielded more shimmer and seemed to require slightly less product for similar results. It had good pigmentation with moderate sparkle with slight fallout over nine hours on its own (but held on quite well when layered over the coordinating cream eyeshadow). The texture was denser and firmer with an almost wet-like feel to it, so flat, synthetic brushes worked best for application.

Ingredients

Azure Sun (Cream Color)

Azure Sun (Cream Color) is a dark, bluish-teal with a pearly, shiny finish. It had good pigmentation, but the consistency was emollient and thin enough that it hard to achieve an even, opaque layer of product–it had a tendency to look a bit patchy on its own. Like most cream eyeshadows that suffer from patchiness on their own, it worked well as a base underneath the coordinating glittery top coat in the set or with other powder eyeshadows applied on top (actually enhanced the cool undertone and intensity of certain shades layered over it). It lasted for over 10 hours without fading or creasing (on its own).

Viseart Absinthe Theory Palette Review, Photos, Swatches

Absinthe

Viseart Absinthe Theory Palette ($39.00 for 0.42 oz.) is a new addition to the Theory range, and it features a mix of neutrals and greens. I liked the color story, and I think the six shades worked well together. I wasn’t keen on the addition of random glitter particles in two of the shimmer shades, as I did not feel they contributed positively–they just resulted in fallout during application but did not look sparkly or glittery on. I also found one shade (#4) to be weakly pigmented compared to the other five shades.

Ingredients

Talc, Mica, Calcium Aluminum Borosilicate, Zinc Stearate, Octyldodecanol, Myristyl Lactate, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Isononyl Isononanoate, Silica, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Tin Oxide. May Contain (+ -): Titanium Dioxide (77891), Iron Oxides (77491, 77492, 77499), Blue 1 (42090), Carmine (75470), Black 2 (77266), Mica (77019), Ferric Ferrocyanide (CI 77510).

Absinthe #2 is a light beige with warm, yellow undertones and a frosted finish with flecks of larger glitter. While I enjoy glittery eyeshadows, I’ve never quite understood when the glittery bits are sparser and aren’t really mixed in with the underlying eyeshadow, because all it resulted in was fallout and little glitter (if any!) on my lid. The consistency was soft, smooth, and blendable and applied well to lids–except the glitter. It lasted for eight hours on me as most of the glitter fallout occurred during application.

Desert Dusk

MAC Desert Dusk Eyeshadow Quad ($33.00 for 0.19 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that contains two mattes and two shimmers with three shades being more neutral in hue (the fourth shade is a pop of blue). It was a decent quad, and I suspect that some will love the inclusion of the blue shade while others will find it doesn’t contribute to a cohesive look.

Tom Ford Emerald Isles Cream & Powder Eye Color Review, Photos, Swatches

Emerald Isles

Tom Ford Beauty Emerald Isles Cream & Powder Eye Color ($62.00 for 0.31 oz.) consists of a sparkling, gold powder eyeshadow and a deep, forest green cream eyeshadow. This has to be one of the better coordinating duos I’ve seen from Tom Ford–there’s plenty of contrast between the two shades but they can be layered and blended into each other for a seamless gradient as their undertones are similar. Both products worked well for me with the cream eyeshadow being the real stunner between the two.

Emerald Isles (Eye Color)

Emerald Isles (Eye Color) is a light-medium, yellow gold with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had opaque pigmentation applied dry and wet with wet application just applying a smoother, more even layer of product with less work but the end result was very similar. The texture was smooth to the touch and felt almost wet. It wore well for eight hours on me with slight fallout over time on its own.

Ingredients

Emerald Isles (Cream Color)

Emerald Isles (Cream Color) is a deep, smoky green with warm, olive undertones and a pearly sheen. The consistency was smooth, creamy without being too slippery, and easy to blend out on the lid. It had rich color payoff that could be applied evenly in a single layer to be worn alone or buffed out as a base underneath other powder eyeshadows. It dried down fast enough to avoid getting into my fine lines and creases but didn’t feel like I had to work at warp speed. The eyeshadow showed no signs of fading or creasing after 10 hours of wear.

Sunset

Natasha Denona Sunset Mini Eyeshadow Palette ($25.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette that features five miniature-sized eyeshadows in a slim, plastic case. I like the concept a lot, particularly with a brand like Natasha Denona that charges premium prices, because I think it can take quite awhile to even finish a standard eyeshadow (if ever; I don’t really know that world, you know!). The three shimmer shades could have been a bit better (Apollo in particular), but the two mattes were lovely.

Sun Beam is a rich, medium-dark copper with warm, orange undertones and a golden-orange sheen. It had excellent pigmentation that applied better to the lid than I expected, as the texture was slightly powdery and more loosely-pressed in the pan, which I felt made it a messier product to work with. I had the greatest success using this shade with smaller, flat, firm brushes (dampened made it a cinch to work with) as those helped to minimize fallout. The eyeshadow blended out nicely on the lid and stayed on for eight and a half hours on me.

Tropic

Natasha Denona Tropic 15-Pan Eyeshadow Palette ($129.00 for 1.20 oz.) is a new, limited edition palette for spring that includes a mix of mattes and shimmers with two rows of more neutral-hued shades and one row featuring pops of color. The matte eyeshadows were nice–= smooth and blendable, though a touch dry–but the shimmers were more inconsistent. Both Mint Frost and Tiger Lily were extremely dense, which made them stiffer and harder to work with; Tiger Lily was workable but Mint Frost was more challenging as it was also very chunky.

On a personal note (this did not impact the rating at all), I found the palette a challenge to work with unless I was only going to stick to three or four shades, due to the mismatch in undertones of the first two rows (very warm-toned) and last row (cooler-toned). I also found the lack of satin and pearl finishes made it harder to smoothly diffuse mattes into the metallics, as they were a denser, thicker formulation.

Each pan also contains 0.05 oz. compared to 0.08 oz. from prior releases; the brand explained (via Instagram story, which I can’t find to reference) that the ingredients used were different and lighter but the pans themselves had the same volume of product. I tried weighing pans from the Tropic palette against similar finish pans from my Sunset palette, but my food scale didn’t seem to be as reliable as ideal for this low of a weight–I kept getting 0.14 oz. for each pan, but when I put two together, it would go up to 0.31 oz. (which would account for the 0.03 oz. difference in product if the pans are exactly the same). Visually, the pans were the exact same height, width, and length. I didn’t receive a box with the palette, so I don’t have a list of ingredients for this one to try and compare it against past palettes.

I have seen certain types of formulas–typically “baked” eyeshadows–weigh noticeably less than traditional powder eyeshadows, but the brand has repeated finishes between palettes (like Creamy Matte), so I’m not sure what specifically was changed that would change the weight significantly (by 0.03 oz.) but not the volume. (If there was a new finish and that was lighter, it wouldn’t seem as notable.) Just for something easy to reference, MAC Eyeshadows are typically 0.05 oz. each but Veluxe Pearls (a type of finish) are 0.04 oz., and MAC Extra Dimension Eyeshadows are all 0.04 oz. despite having a similar pan size as the regular eyeshadows and actually having part of product raised above the pan’s maximum height. Another example is Chanel’s Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quads, which contains 0.07 oz. of product when the original formula contained 0.24 oz. yet they seem to take up the same volume, though it seemed to go from traditional to a more “baked” formula.

The updated packaging is definitely an upgrade, though, from the prior palettes. I vastly prefer the more secure, plastic exterior and shade names written next to each respective shade over the overhead sheet from before.

Peach Puff

Peach Puff is a muted, medium-dark coral with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color payoff that applied beautifully to bare skin–it didn’t darken or lose its intensity as I blended out, which can be a struggle when I work with mattes without primer. The texture was soft and velvety with just a touch of powderiness. It wore well for eight and a half hours on me.

Sangria

Sangria is slightly muted, medium red with warm undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow had excellent pigmentation in a single layer, while the texture was soft and blendable, so it was easy to apply to and blend out on my bare lid. The texture did feel a little drier compared to other mattes by the brand, which have been a bit more finely-milled. This shade started to fade noticeably on me after eight and a half hours of wear.

Fake Tan

Fake Tan is a light-medium, peachy orange with warm, yellower undertones and a matte finish. The color payoff was opaque in a single layer, while the consistency was soft and blendable but a touch dry to the touch. I had no trouble applying it to bare skin and blending it out. It lasted for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Coco

Coco is a medium brown with warm, yellowish undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color coverage with a soft, velvety texture that was a smidgen powdery in the pan but blended out beautifully without sheering out too readily. This shade wore well for eight and a half hours on me.

Sahara

Sahara is a medium-dark yellow with warm, orange undertones and a matte finish. It had very nearly opaque color payoff in one layer and was buildable to full coverage with less than a layer patted on top. The consistency was soft and velvety without being too softly nor too firmly pressed in the pan. It lasted for eight hours on me.

Pastel Melon

Pastel Melon is a light-medium peach with warm, yellow undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color payoff in a single layer paired with a soft, smooth, and velvety texture. The eyeshadow applied nicely to bare skin and blended out easily along the edges for a diffused edge. It started to fade on me after eight hours of wear.

Gusti

Gusti is a brighter, medium-dark orange with warm undertones and flecks of bluish sparkle over a metallic finish. The pigmentation was semi-opaque in one layer, but it was hard to build it up; I found it best to apply it using a dampened brush and patting it on. The texture was soft and a bit dusty to work with on the lid and yielded slight fallout during application. It wore well for eight hours on me.

Limoncello

Limoncello is a light yellow with warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic finish. It had semi-opaque color payoff in one layer, which wasn’t buildable unless I applied it using a dampened brush to begin with. The texture was drier and more loosely-pressed, which resulted in sheerer coverage and some fallout during application. There was something about how the shimmer combined with the powder and got lost on my lid–like it never brightened as much as I expected it would. It lasted for seven and a half hours on me but had some fallout over time.

Mint Frost

Mint Frost is a light-medium aqua with subtle, warm undertones and a metallic finish. It had a chunky consistency with a very firm, dense, and stiff consistency that made it really hard to apply evenly with fingertips, brushes, or sponge-tipped applicators (wet or dry). With enough jabbing and pushing of the surface, I could get enough product onto my brush to show up in a swatch, but I really had to work it into the skin to get an even (well, mostly) layer of product. There was some fallout during application (more from having to pack so much on to see it than from the texture alone), and then some fallout over the seven and a half hours it wore for.

Exotic

Exotic is a medium emerald green with subtle, cool undertones and a frosted sheen. It appeared more metallic in the pan than it did applied, though a dampened brush did help to bring out the sheen. The texture was soft, smooth, and dense without being too firm or difficult to pick up. It applied evenly and stayed on well for eight and a half hours.

Laguna

Laguna is a bright, cyan blue with cool undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow was richly pigmented with a smooth, velvety texture that blended out nicely but had a tendency to darken and look more faded on the lid than it did initially. I found that primer helped to minimize the darkening but not entirely. It wore well for eight hours on me before fading noticeably.

Tiger Lily

Tiger Lily is a rich, deep blue with cool undertones and a pearly sheen. The consistency was quite dense and on the thicker side, which made it a firmer eyeshadow and required a heavier hand and flat, synthetic brushes. I found that it was buildable to two layers to get true-to-pan intensity, as the first layer seemed to melt onto the lid and look a bit faded and flat (but opaque) otherwise. This shade was hard to blend along the edges due to the thicker consistency. It started to crease on me after eight hours on me.

Zena

Zena is a medium-dark lavender with cool undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque pigmentation that applied similarly to bare skin, and for this type of shade and finish, I was impressed by how intense and true-to-pan it appeared without primer. The texture was velvety and smooth, and the eyeshadow blended out easily along the edges without sheering out too readily. It wore well for eight hours on me.
